Position Night Rules

Position Night and Year End Tournament Rules

NTMA Golf Position Night and Year End Tournament Rules

The league has two position nights.  The top teams (based on total points) compete for prizes and positioning in the year end tournament.  The 5 teams with the highest point total are awarded prizes.

The year end tournament is when the top 5 teams from each position night compete for prizes.

Golfers whose team point totals are not high enough to be in contention for position night prizes will still compete for other prizes, such as:

  • Lowest Net Score (grouped by handicap brackets)
  • Closest to the pin
  • Longest drive

General Rules
The top teams will be playing against each other for position night prizes and tournament ranking:

  • If you have a scheduled hole, you are in the running for prize money.  Points are awarded per normal league play, with the highest point total at the end of position night determining prize eligibility.
  • If your team does not have a scheduled hole, we will be assigned a random starting hole.
  • When at least one member of your team shows up, come in the clubhouse/bar and get your starting hole assignment.
  • Again, if you are in the running for position (i.e. your team has a hole scheduled) you will already have a starting hole.

Also, there will be no switching opponents for position night or year end tournament or, again, you will not be eligible to win any prizes.

We feel this will bring a fair competitive aspect to Position Night as the league continues to grow.

Specific Rules:
The following rules are specific for each position night and the year-end touranament:

  • Each team is responsible for keeping their own score and the score of your opponents.
  • Every team will turn in a scorecard filled out completely showing their score and their opponents score.
  • This means we will have two scorecards from each foursome.
  • Both scorecards must be initialed.

With the size of the league, we don’t have time to check the scoring on every card after the round, so we are making some changes on how we handle the Position Night prize payouts:

  • To make sure the scoring is correct; we will not award prizes immediately after the Position Night round.
  • We will collect the cards, check the addition on every card and make the awards the next time we play.
  • This does not mean that you do not add up the scores.  Blank score cards, or incomplete score cards will disqualify both teams in the foursome from prize money.
  • We will compare the cards and verify the accuracy of the scores for both teams.
  • The initials on the cards imply that you have already done this before the cards are turned in.
  • If this is done properly all scoring issues will be resolved before the cards are turned in and the scores will match.

It is your responsibility to verify your score with your opponents after the match, make sure the addition is correct; the card is filled out completely and turned in.

When turning in your card, please check in at the scorer’s table and give your team number.  Do not just leave your card on the table without giving the scorer your team number.

Addressing Ties:
We will be addressing ties as was done in the past.  For both Position Nights and for the Tournament we will be matching score cards to determine the winner.

  • For all ties, we will compare the scores on the par five holes, numbers 5 and 12.
  • If we still have a tie, we will compare the scores on the par 4 holes 6 and 17.
  • If we still have a tie, we will compare the scores on the par 3 holes 7 and 16.
  • If we still have a tie, we will compare the scores on the par 3 holes 3 and 10.
  • If we still have a tie, we will compare the scores on the par 4 holes 1 and 11.
  • If there is still a tie, we will pick holes at random until we have a winner.

Position Night Low Net Score:
On position nights only, for computation of lowest net score prizes, we will (as in the past) add two strokes for the front 9 (par 35) as the back 9 is par 37.  This keeps things fair for everyone.

The year-end tournament is 18 holes, so this is not necessary as all players play 18.
